The term “all backgrounds” has historically been limited to people learning new coding skills so they could move into a different career. That meant no help for high-schoolers trying to learn about technology, self-learners stuck on a problem and just looking for help, or people of all ages just seeking help in understanding high-level technical concepts.
As of today, that’s all changing. Today, we launched our new tutoring program, available to anyone who wants help on the kinds of technical topics we teach here, including development environments, coding toolsets, project build processes, best practices, and of course software development in a variety of languages.
Our tutors are curated and managed by our Operations Manager Alex Reid, and vetted and trained by our talented instructional team. Alex has lived on five different continents, leading men and women as a British Army Captain. He cares very much about creating a safe, inclusive environment for learning, which is infectious and inherited by everyone he trains.
In his words,
“Learning about technology is one thing. Being able to teach technical topics to others is something very different. Our guiding principle is to lead with humility and empathy to create safe and inclusive environments where people learn and lives are transformed. Only candidates who epitomize those values and who qualify technically are hired. I get to support these amazing people, and in the process they teach me more each day about what it means to be dedicated to excellence. That’s the standard.”
Every dollar of profit from this tutoring program will go into our Diversity Scholarship Fund, which helps cover tuition for women, veterans, and other underrepresented groups in tech. In this way, we are continuing to give back to our community.
